While this may not be a SCAM in the traditional sense of the word, this PRIVATE COMPANY uses very clever marketing to get your money. Their letter looks like a very official document such as the State or Feds would send and requests money for registration of your corporation and/or business. THIS IS NOT A STATE OR FEDERAL ORGANIZATION AND THERE IS NO SUCH FEE. Again, this is a private company soliciting for your money. When I called the 888 number and started asking difficult questions I was told that someone would have to get back to me to discuss my questions and concerns further. All they kept repeating is that 'Office of the Compliance Recorder' is a private company that helps corporations/businesses. I'm glad I dug a little deeper before sending a check and I hope this helps others as well...When in doubt SEARCH THE INTERNET!!!

Re: Compliance Recorder is a scam

this is from the CA SOS website

If you have received a solicitation letter that seems misleading or confusing, please contact the California Attorney General's office at the California Department of Justice, Public Inquiry Unit, P.O. Box 944255, Sacramento, California 94244-2550 or through the California Attorney General's website at www.ag.ca.gov/consumers/gen.... The telephone number for the Public Inquiry Unit is (800) 952-5225 (toll free in California

http://www.sos.ca.gov/busin...

I will be mailing the form they sent us to the CA SOS and hopefully the AG will shut them down.

Re: Compliance Recorder is a scam

the red flag is the phone number is not posted in an obvious place. another red flag is that the name itself does not indicate which agency they represent, ie; City OF, State OF. I called and told them to remove our name from their list, the guy said he would relay the message. I also told him their form is very decieving. he said he was just the answering service. BS. I'm going to call back and tell him WHAT message to relay.

Then, I am going to hunt them down in the Seccretary of States web site and report them for mailing out fraudulent forms. You just know the liberal gov't types are going to love busting thse guys, and rightly so. Unfortuneatley these bad eggs give the private sector a bad name.

Re: A networking meeting that didn’t suck

Great post, Jim! It's amazing how differently we saw our conversation. I loved it--I truly enjoy getting to the heart of the matter (therefore one of my clients noting, "Dyana is not for the faint of heart.") and you went right in there with me. I loved the way you navigated telling your MyMindshare story and you DID get me to a place of understanding and appreciating it.

I actually loved Paul's response because it was so clear, on target and declarative of his purpose. what was particularly fabulous was that we went one further after the initial exchange--you and I together--and asked if he wanted to make as much money and SPEND it before he died or just leave a pile-o-cash as his legacy. That got his thinking cap sparking and I wonder what he would answer now that he's had a couple of days percolation time?

Thanks so much for the mention and for being passionate about MyMindshare--which now makes much more sense and is a fascinating model. Keep on keeping on!

ps: thank the gods that Colleen made the choice to leave the house, right?! She rocks.

Re: A networking meeting that didn’t suck

Nice write-up, Jim, and it's always fascinating to see how other people see the same event. Maybe that's why multiple POVs is a tried-and-true literary and theatrical device.

I didn't hear that answer and I do think it's funny and I also think Paul was the perfect person to come to the event: he seemed to have fun meeting people and talking about stuff, and hey, those are my criteria for "belongs at a Biznik meeting." (Not being a shill is another criterion, but no one there was: mostly, folks bring up their work as the subject comes up.)

Here's my dirty little secret: I'd never leave the house if I had my druthers. I have a rich inner life and The BF and I have a great time hanging with the dog. On the other hand, I've discovered that there is a certain je ne sais awesome about in-person meetups, as you say, so I do them. As an introvert, I just plan carefully.
